Spot Removal Guidelines
What's the easiest way to get rid of stained carpet? Throw it out! We're only joking-but we know that dealing with unwanted sports is no laughing matter. Here are some tips to help you get rid of spots before they become permanent stains.
Remember: GEM Carpet Care provides FREE spot remover to all first-time customers and FREE refills when you run out! This is a professional formula that will work better than any grocery-store spot removers!
- Always treat spots immediately.
- Try using water or club soda to remove a stain before using any other spot remover. Club soda won't set stains, and the carbonation does a great job helping lift stains out. NEVER use bleach.
- Use clean white towels to treat the spot. This prevents any color from from transferring from the towel to the carpet.
- Blot -do Not rub. Rubbing can cause the stain to penetrate further and can untwist the carpet fibers.
- Test spot remover on an inconspicuous area of carpet first. Also it is helpful to apply the spot remover to a towel, not directly to the carpet: this will help keep from getting too much detergent on the carpet.
- Work towards the center of the spot. This helps prevent the stain from spreading.
- Once finished, rinse out any detergent residue thoroughly with water. Any spot remover left behind can attract dirt, causing the area to become quickly soiled again. Caution: don't over wet the area, this can cause the carpet backing to separate from the carpet fibers, referred to as delamination.
- Dry the area quickly. Place a fan over the area or a weighted stack of white towels over the spot. If there is any remaining stain deeper in the carpet, this will prevent it from coming back up to the surface of the carpet, referred to as "wicking."
